My goal for individual therapy is to help you meet your goals, not to push any particular technique onto you. When you first call or email me, we will first set up a 15 min phone consultation where you can tell me a little bit about what you are hoping to gain from therapy or counseling, and together we can get a sense of if we would be a good fit.
I take an individualized approach. This means I first want to understand your strengths, your problems, what kinds of factors may be exacerbating or maintaining your problems, and what systemic structures (race, class, gender, disability, acculturation, etc.) and family dynamics have contributed to your problems. In line with the name of the organization, I also adopt an emotion-centered approach, which means I want to understand your emotional life from the inside out: what kinds of things do you feel strongly about? Are you emotionally sensitive? How did your family and friends deal with emotions growing up? What are your beliefs about emotions, and what kinds of things have you done to manage your emotions so far? What has worked for you, and what feels like it's not working well at all?
After learning about what you want for yourself, we will then collaborate on a treatment plan. I will present a few options of different treatment approaches based on what the science says works, and you can choose what sounds the best to you. See below for some of the specific concerns I can help you overcome, and click on the link to see more information about each.
Anxiety (generalized anxiety, panic, social anxiety, specific phobias, performance anxiety)
I can see clients in person in my studio on Mount Sequoyah or via telehealth (i.e., online therapy). I do not (yet) accept insurance. Rates are $145 for individual therapy sessions. Rates for psychological assessments will vary based on the measures needed; ask for a quote if you are seeking an assessment.
